From the Association ~ Walt D’Alessandris

Hi Everybody!

The “Dog Days of Summer” have arrived. If you don’t believe me, check your next Duke Energy electric bill.

It is very nice seeing the residents doing all the house washing, weed pulling and everything to make the “Village” the best place to live in. The Maintenance Men have been very busy planting flowers, trimming trees, hedges, sodding and keeping the place in “ship shape.” Thanks guys, you are very much appreciated, we just don’t say it often enough.

We will forego the monthly Association meetings until November when the bulk of the Winter residents return. The Association Board meets with the Managers, Sandy and Henry, fairly often just to stay in the “loop.” They show a great interest in being involved in all the functions in the Community.

We have been informed in a directive from the Home Office that golf cart parking on the lawn at the Clubhouse will no longer be permitted.

A big “thank you” to the Editor, Liz Edwards, for doing such a fine job with the “Bits & Pieces,” you are very much appreciated.

Please remember to do something nice for your neighbor.

“The Roaring ‘20’s” Dance and Gala Event

Saturday, August 5th, at 7 p.m.

$5.00 for members and $7.00 for non-members

You absolutely do not want to miss this event. We are rolling out the “red carpet” for you on this one. Even if you do not usually go to dances, we urge you to come to this. It is not only a dance, but a real Gala Event! Cheryl and I have pulled out all the stops on this one. Come and enjoy our fantastic banquet table and chocolate fountains. Come and dance the night away with our very own “Allen” who always creates just the right mood for all. His music is always an enjoyment. Ladies, put on those flapper dresses, beads and feathers and put on the “Ritz.” Men, remember the gangsters back in the ‘20’s? Well, here is your chance to step back in time and strut your stuff. Back in the ‘20’s “anything goes.” Let’s all let our hair down and kick up our heels. Many surprises await you. So, don't sit back and hear about this one, come out, and experience it for yourself. You’re sure to have one fantastic, exciting, enjoyable and memorable evening. Bring your own bottle (Bathtub Gin is optional.) Please, bring some fun finger foods for our banquet table. Tickets can be purchased at the Clubhouse every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday between the hours of 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Or, you can call Cheryl Wilson at 863-314-6219. She will make sure a ticket ends up in your hands. Tickets will be sold at the door.

Your Corporation ~ ~ John Gates, Pres. SV Corp.

Amendment to the By-laws

The Corporation’s By-laws permit the Board of Directors to conduct business and make decisions without meeting face-to-face. The only requirement for a decision to be binding is that there must be unanimous signed consent from all Directors.

The Board has decided to amend Article V of the By-laws as follows: “The business and affairs of the Corporation shall be managed and governed by a Board of Directors composed of five (5) Directors . . .” This amendment will reduce the size of the Board by two Directors as of the Annual Meeting scheduled for mid-January 2018. The seven signed consents were posted on the Clubhouse bulletin board on July 11, 2017.

Life Line Screening

Tuesday, August 8th - 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

We will be hosting "Life Line Screening,” at the Clubhouse, Tuesday, August 8th from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. It is the same screening we hosted in 2016. Life Line Screening is a leading provider of community-based preventive health screenings. They provide Ultrasound screenings to identify risk factors for Cardiovascular Disease.

Community Manager’s Message ~ Sandy and Henry Haywood

We trust that everyone is having an awesome summer so far! We have enjoyed our “4th of July” celebration, and want to thank all that cooked the great hamburgers and hot dogs, and worked to make this another wonderful summer event! The “Summer Pool Party & Picnic” was a great time as well. We had a great turn out, and thanks to all of those who helped with this and to Rickert Properties for providing the food and entertainment!

We are finishing up on our most recent rehab units and they are turning out very nicely. If you know of anyone that may be interested, please let us know. They will receive a two-year lot rent of $199.00! We will be beginning another one soon, so there are options for “like new” homes available.

We are steadily working to keep our community one that is known for its wonderful curb appeal and well-manicured property and homes. This is what draws good folks to us, and we will continue to do our home and lot inspections and address any needs as we observe them at any given time. Remember that the appearance and condition of your home and yard are your responsibility even if you are not here and any work that needs being done will not be deferred until the fall. If you need assistance in finding help to perform any service, we are happy to assist in giving you names of vendors that are reputable. If the staff performs this work to keep things up to standard, you will pay significantly more, as it takes them away from their daily tasks.

We will begin sending out monthly statements to anyone that has a balance on their account. If you receive this and have any questions, please call the office. Remember that any fees, taxes or old balances must be brought current and paid as they are due. We are also continuing to use our “Constant Contact” program to send out information and reminders to everyone that uses email, so if we do not have a current one for you, and you would like to utilize this great tool, please let us know. It is a great way to stay in touch even when you are traveling!

Our wonderful maintenance crew is working hard to keep your community functioning well. Please continue to support them and be respectful of their time, and if you have an issue that needs to be addressed, so that we may provide good customer service, please let the office staff know, so that we may document it appropriately and follow up.

Thank you for your support as we strive to keep Sebring Village a great community!

September Calendar ~ Glenda Gray

I need any changes or additions for the September Calendar by August 8th. Bill (he does the art work on the calendar and sends it to the print shop) and Bev Bowling are moving here full time. They are leaving on the 14th. Thank you.

Father’s Day Brunch “Thank You” ~ Suellen Jones

I really appreciated all the help I got from Jean and Neil, Walt, Jan T., Alberta and Glenda G. They were the reason that we had a very successful outing. Thanks also go to all the attendees. You are why we do this. We accomplished what we set out to do; fill stomachs with biscuits and gravy, pancakes, sausage and fruit cups. We enjoyed “chitchatting,” and being with friends on Father’s Day. Thanks again, everyone.

Soup & Sub Night

Saturday, August 26th at 5 p.m.

$5.00 for Members and $6.00 for non-members

Well, my good friends, this is an event that was requested. We will be serving three different types of soups and assorted subs. You may try a little bit of everything, or, a lot of one soup and one sub, the choice is yours. We are sure to please everyone with the variety we will serve you. Come on down and enjoy a really nice dinner. As always, the Summer Committee guarantees you a good time.

There will be a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board and tickets will be sold in the Clubhouse every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. Or, feel free to call Sue Cronin at 863-635-6164.

Coffee Tyme ~ Helen Hutchison

Our Summertime “Coffee Tyme” was good on July 7th, 2017. Thank you, Sharon LaPenna, for taking blood pressures in the absence of our usual nurse crew. This month, on Friday, August 4th, Carol DeArmitt will be on hand to do the blood pressures. We are fortunate to have these nurses in our Village.

For those of you who were not there, we also had two guest speakers, Donna Arata, a resident and Crime Prevention Specialist, Nel Hayes, speaking on safety concerns that we should all be aware of.

There was a time when we did not have to lock our doors, but not today. We should always lock our doors, cars and sheds.

If you do not receive your mail within the week, check with your local Post Office; some criminals have been changing addresses to get to your personal information.

We all get unsolicited phone calls. Many of us have caller ID, and if you do not recognize the number, do not answer the phone. Just because it shows up as a local number does not mean they are in our area.

If you get a “robot call,” just hang up. Do not answer any questions, hang up.

If a caller asks who you are and they state your name, do not answer “YES,” scammers can record your “YES” and use it to authorize fraudulent purchases.

No bank, IRS, or any government office will ever call you, then send you a letter.

If you continue to get calls from the same number, call your phone company and block those calls.

Always cut off your name label from any magazines or medicine bottles before you throw them away, as it contains personal information. Today you can never be too careful. Be Safe - Be Alert!

Summer Activities ~ Sue Cronin

A great, big thanks goes out to Leslie Maschue for stepping up to put on our 4th of July Party. We had a wonderful turnout and a good time was had by all. Thank you to our great cooks, Neil Knutson and Max Bonkoski. As usual, the Clubhouse looked wonderful and very festive, thanks to Sue and Cheryl Wilson. I saw so many wonderful people in the kitchen working their fingers off. I did not win a prize, but, I understand the pies Neil made were yummy. Thanks to Jan Schrage for the wonderful cakes. Also, thank you so much to Lannie Powers for taking over the Hawaiian Luau. I am so sorry I had to miss all the fun. I do know that Cheryl Wilson and others pitched in to lend her a hand, so, “Kudos” to you all.

Thank you, Cheryl Wilson, for taking over selling tickets while I was away. You ROCK girlfriend...

J.U.L.I.E.T.’s Luncheon ~ Glenda Gibson & Becky Moore

The Sebring Village “Juliets” luncheoned together and had a great time at Dutcher's Diner on July 13th with 15 “Juliets” attending. The food was excellent! The blessing was given by Leslie Machue and was very nice. Thank you, Leslie, it was greatly appreciated.

At the end of the luncheon, Glenda brought Bingo Cards and three gifts which were won by Suellen, Yvette, and Lorraine. Thank you, Glenda, it was greatly appreciated.

Our next luncheon will be at “Dot’s Restaurant & Coffee Shop,” located in Sebring Square Plaza, on Thursday, August 10th at 12:00 p.m. Please, don't forget to add your name to the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board in the Clubhouse. We hope to see everyone in August!
